Nitrogen-containing heterocyclic compounds are key building blocks used to develop compounds of biological or medicinal interests to chemists. A vast number of nitrogen-containing heterocyclic building blocks have applications in pharmaceutical research, agricultural science, and drug discovery. Heterocyclic building blocks also have practical uses as components in dyestuffs, antioxidants, copolymers, bases, and as ligands.
My research on heterocyclic multidentate ligand systems started with my Master& PhD degrees where the bidentate chelate ligand 2,2'-biimidazole and the tridentates derived from 2,9-dicarbaldehyde-1,10-phenanthroline and 2-chloro-1,10-phenanthroline were coordinated to first row transition metal ions. The resulting complexes were found to be of important structural and magnetic properties.
Modelling in bioinorganic chemistry is one of my main research interests:
*The nitrogen-containing heterocyclic ligand systems based on 1,2,4- triazin-6- one derivatives and their complexes.
*vic-dioximes such as 1,2-bis(indolyl)-1,2-bis(hydroxyimino)ethane dioxime.
Utilization of local inorganic raw materials in preparing clay bricks and thermal insulating materials.
Utilization of sewage sludge wastes (bio-solids) in the manufacturing of clay bricks.
Science education is also of interest.
