About Prof. Taleb Mustafa Al-Rousan
Prof. Taleb Mustafa Al-Rousan earned his Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering (Transportation and Materials specialization) from Jordan University of Science and Technology (JUST) in February 1994. Upon graduation, he worked for 1.5 years as a site supervisor for a highway construction project at a local consulting firm.
He began his graduate studies at JUST in September 1995 and served concurrently as a part-time teaching assistant until January 1998. His master's research, titled "Analysis of Urban Trips with Perceived Risks in Amman," was later published as a journal paper entitled "The Impact of Perceived Risk on Urban Commuters' Route Choice." He was awarded his Master of Science in Civil Engineering (Transportation specialization) in February 1998.
From October 1998 to January 2001, Prof. Al-Rousan worked in Saudi Arabia with Dar Alhandasah—Sha'er & Partners, supervising the construction of the Almadinah–Alqasim Expressway.
In January 2001, he received a scholarship from The Hashemite University in Jordan to pursue a Ph.D. in Civil Engineering in the United States. While at Texas A&M University, he worked as a part-time research assistant at the Texas Transportation Institute (TTI) from January 2003 to December 2004. He was awarded his Ph.D. in Civil Engineering in December 2004; his dissertation was titled "Characterization of Aggregate Shape Properties Using a Computer-Automated System."
Prof. Al-Rousan currently serves as Vice Dean of the Faculty of Engineering (February 2026–present) and as a full Professor in the Civil Engineering Department at The Hashemite University (November 2022–present). He previously held the rank of Associate Professor from March 2012 to November 2022, and Assistant Professor from February 2005 to March 2012.
Between August 2014 and August 2017, he worked as an Associate Professor and Chair of the Civil Engineering Department at ALHOSN University, UAE. During his sabbatical year (September 2013–August 2014), he served as Associate Professor and Department Chair at the University of Tabuk, KSA.
Over more than eighteen years in academia, Prof. Al-Rousan has taught a wide range of undergraduate courses, including Pavement Materials & Design, Highway Engineering, Transportation Engineering, Building Materials, Traffic Safety, Surveying, Surveying LAB, Highway Engineering LAB, and Building Materials LAB. He has served as Chair of the Civil Engineering Department for a total of five years across three universities (The Hashemite University, Jordan; University of Tabuk, KSA; and ALHOSN University, UAE). In addition to his academic experience, he brings over three years of industry experience in Jordan and Saudi Arabia.
Prof. Al-Rousan has authored numerous publications, which have collectively received hundreds of citations. His research interests include pavement materials, roadway condition evaluation and management, traffic safety studies, image analysis techniques for pavement material evaluation, and the use of recycled materials in pavement performance.
